As floods, fires and record-breaking heatwaves become ever more frequent, scientists are warning that the climate and nature crisis is proving more severe than first thought. The fossil fuel industry is pouring money into disinformation campaigns.
That’s why, on 27 November, eight of the UK’s most respected experts will gather in Westminster’s Central Hall for the National Emergency Briefing. This event will provide MPs and other influential figures with the clearest possible account of the escalating risks to our food, health, security and economy.
Is your MP attending? Check with your postcode here: www.nebriefing.org.
The experts will set out credible, science-based pathways to tackle the crisis, cutting through confusion and vested interests. The event will be followed by a major campaign to put pressure on MPs at constituency level, with a film of the event to be screened around the UK early next year.
This initiative has a chance of creating a tipping point towards genuine emergency action, which would mean breaking out of our failing business-as-usual. It has wide support from organisations like the Wildlife Trusts, the Church of England, the Royal Meteorological Society, Exeter University, and many more. And it’s endorsed by Lord Deben, the former Chair of the Climate Change Committee.
But here’s the challenge: this is an invitation-only event, and it needs MPs to show up to maximise impact.
We’re supporting the organisers of this historic briefing, and we need your help. Please visit www.nebriefing.org to check whether your MP has committed to attend. If they haven’t, you’ll be able to email them directly through the site.
Please share this with friends, family and colleagues. A few minutes of your time could make the difference.
